How much do stylists make?

Stylists are among one of the fastest growing jobs in the nation. One of the more common questions we receive from potential students and their parents is “how much can I make after I get licensed?”. The answer for that question is very simple. You can make as much money as you are willing to work for.

Unlike most professions, as a cosmetologist, you can make as much income as you are willing to work for. The key to an income in cosmetology is to work smarter, not harder. If you keep your books full of clients and market yourself well, you can make a great living. If you are in a salon that allows you to work the hours your clients are available, that can lead to even more income. Being available for your clients may mean working evenings or weekends, but if you are making enough money doing it the reward is much greater than the cost.

Our Student Services Director helps students and graduates at both campuses make connections with the salons they are interested in working for. His primary goal isn’t to just get you into any salon, but into the salon that is right for you! When asked how he measures student success in the cosmetology field, he said “When a graduate makes more money than I do, I feel that I have done my job well”.

Salon owners from across the area have told us that their top earners have a lot of the same things in common. They are coachable. Being willing to learn from others is a major benefit of being in a salon. Being open to what you are being taught is the key to success. They are dedicated. Regardless of what you do, do it with all of you. Be willing to attend classes, market yourself on social media platforms and be true to your clients. They provide incredible customer service. Clients will not spend money when they do not feel valued. In fact, even if your technical skills aren’t the very best, your service skills can dramatically increase clientele.

Another idea is to follow stylists from the area on Instagram. You get a real world view into their lives. You see the nice clothes they wear, the cool events they go to and the nice cars they drive.

We appreciate and look forward to any questions you may have! Get in touch with us if we can help answer any thoughts you have!
