Be a Light by Ashley Paulson

‘As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.’ – Proverbs 27:17

It is no secret that the beauty industry is one that is extremely competitive. Being competitive is a great thing – it helps you reach goals, and ultimately leads to success. However, something I think we lose when we get overly competitive is KINDNESS!

Unfortunately, some people view others’ success as their own failure. Hairdressers, instead of recognizing others’ great work, sometimes let jealousy takes precedence. HOWEVER, if at the end of every day you can say you have given your absolute best, why are you comparing yourself to anyone else? Strive to be better than one person… the person you were yesterday. As long as you are achieving that, you are growing. Comparison becomes such a nasty addiction, and it makes us all lose sight of our own goals! God made us all unique for a reason. His intention was never for you to be just like someone else.

A friend shared this with me today, and it really spoke to me:

With that beautiful message being said, here is my challenge to you:If you see great work… tell them it is great! Imagine the confidence you could build in not only that stylist but also their guest, to hear another person say it!
Work on building stylists around you UP! The teamwork that comes along with that will shock you.
Take classes together and learn with others. It give you common ground to be able to share some of the same knowledge, even if your original education is from different backgrounds.
Celebrate small successes together. If your team has a goal and one person meets it, tell them how proud of them you are!

GO BE A LIGHT!
Ashley
