Non-typical classes inclued
Hays Academy, like any cosmetology school in Kansas, is required to provide you with classes that are relevant to the industry. Obviously, these classes serve an important role as you will need to utilize them to be successful and maintain a safe and clean salon environment. The thing that sets Hays Academy apart from many other schools are the classes that are given beyond the textbooks.
Four times throughout a student’s time at Hays Academy of Hair Design, pupils are educated on how to be as financially independent as possible. How to understand how student loans work, and the importance of budgeting. These classes also allow staff to see how things are working. We need to know what we are doing well so we can continue to do them, as well as how we can improve to make our school a place people are proud to graduate from.
We are blessed to have many area salons come to our school and give classes on the latest trends in the industry, how to perform them, and actually give demos to these students. This is one of the most looked forward to events students have in our school.
All of our instructors have professional experience in a salon. In fact, a majority still do salon services outside of their roles as educators. This enables our students to be exposed to current industry demands, salon openings and how to make an impact in the salon.
We offer career assistance as well. Students learn how to make a cover letter, resume and portfolio that allows them to impress salon owners prior to an interview. Being able to make yourself stand out on paper is important in a highly competitive industry. Feedback from employers state that our students are typically more prepared than students from other schools in this avenue.
All in all, you get more than what you pay for with a Hays Academy of Hair Design education. We give you the required tools to be successful, but we do not feel it is enough. We want to go above and beyond to give a comprehensive view of how you can thrive. The key to this isn’t in just our classes being delivered. The key is the student being willing to put in the work.
