A True Service Industry by Len Melvin

Few, if any industries allow you to give back the way the beauty industry does.  By giving your time and minimal out of pocket expense, the beauty industry affords one the opportunity to give back in big ways.  Hays Academy of Hair Design, with campuses in Hays and Salina, Kansas is a part of many service projects that model to their students ways to give back!

Hays Academy students and staff have made a habit of being engaged in service projects in their communities and beyond. Every year at both campuses, Hays Academy students take part in our back to school Cuts for Kids event.  During this time, Hays Academy students, staff, and alumni participate in providing FREE haircuts for children returning back to school.  This has been a very popular event that annually affords over 300 kids in the Hays and Salina communities to get free, fresh haircuts that may not have the means to do so.

In a similar setting, Hays Academy offers a back to school bash for college students as they come back from their summer breaks.  During this event Hays Academy students give free haircuts, manicures, and eyebrow waxes to returning college students.  In addition, free food, drinks, and a live band are on location to provide an upbeat and energetic atmosphere.

Hays Academy has also been a part of some very big fundraising efforts in the past.  Through hair shows, alumni events, and jean days at school, Hays Academy students and staff have raised over $15000 that has gone to organizations like Jana’s Campaign, Relay for Life, Tammy Walker Cancer Center and more!

Hays Academy staff have also adopted the idea of giving back. During their annual staff retreat, the staff members at Hays Academy embark on service project that have provided free haircuts to families at the Ronald McDonald house, fed families at Children’s Mercy and more!

If you love the beauty industry and you are looking for an opportunity to be a part of something much bigger than yourself, take the time to look into becoming a student at Hays Academy of Hair Design!
