Choosing a Cosmetology School
Choosing the right cosmetology school for you can be tough, with so many options out there. There are so many different schools to choose from that may offer different experiences and locations. Regardless of your situation, Hays Academy of Hair Design recommends you use the following five points to lead your search:
Considering the Total Cost
Let’s face it, total cost does matter. At the end of the day, we all want something in return for what we pay. At Hays Academy of Hair Design, we agree with this idea and continue to keep our total cost at a very affordable rate, especially for the programs offered in return. It is important to compare prices and you will be so glad you did! Keep in mind there is potential support in paying for cosmetology school. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), is available to those who qualify. For additional information regarding FAFSA®, visit our financial aid page!
Finding an accredited school can be a better option for you because accreditation sets the cosmetology school with higher standards in offering quality programs for students to succeed Accredited organizations are considered reliable agencies according to The U.S. Department of Education. An accredited school is held accountable by a federally recognized association. This ensures their practices are monitored. Also, to receive any financial aid or federal student loans, you are required to attend an accredited institution. By attending a non-accredited school, you may still be able to attain loans. However, they may not be backed up by the federal government and will likely carry higher interest rates. Hays Academy of Hair Design is accredited by NACCAS (National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences).
Choosing the Size of your Classes
When considering the best cosmetology school for you, you may want to choose a school that offers smaller class sizes, so you can have more time with your cosmetology instructor, depending on your needs when it comes to education. At Hays Academy of Hair Design, you have more access to one-on-one time with instructors. This valuable asset may provide you with a greater sense of security and confidence in performing services and hands-on experience guided by your skilled teacher. When you have better access to your instructor, you could feel more comfortable performing your skills on potential clients.
Having reputable partners in cosmetology school is essential to ensure a solid education. Typically, schools have a hair color, cutting technique, and business education company to assist their students. Other partners may include product and tool companies. Do your research on these companies to see what they offer. Hays Academy of Hair Design has partnered with Wella Education while becoming a Wella Signature School. Hays Academy of Hair Design became the first-ever Wella Cut Craft school, in addition to teaching and using Wella for hair color education. We have also partnered with our local college, Fort Hayes State University, to offer business courses to our future students, ensuring students access to cutting-edge business training. These partners have been a vital part of our student’s education.
Why is culture important? For example, you will be in school for up to 1,500 hours if you attend cosmetology school in Kansas. That could be about a year of training at the school you choose. It is important you feel like you belong at the school you attend. Being able to feel comfortable in your surroundings allows a strong platform to learn on. What makes a great culture? A caring staff and educators who genuinely care about your success and future goals. A fun, positive environment is essential. A couple of great ways to get to know a school is through their social media profiles and by scheduling a tour!
