Distance Education
When you think of cosmetology school, distance education is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. Due to the recent Covid-19 pandemic, Hays Academy of Hair Design, with campuses in Hays and Salina Kansas, has had to resort to a new type of educational delivery.
A Staff that Cares
Making an adjustment in such a short time is not easy, but when you have a staff that cares about the well being of the students and the schools as a whole, anything is possible. When your back is up against the wall, you have a choice, are you going to fight or flight? Hays Academy employees made the decision from day one that whatever it took to continue educating the students is exactly what was going to happen!
Coordinated Effort
The development of an online delivery was a very coordinated effort between both campuses. After many virtual meetings and hundreds of messages back and forth, Hays Academy was able to have a distant education plan in place for every student that wanted to continue on in their higher education goals. Through the use of Google’s GSuite for Education, Hays Academy is able to carry on in delivering the education the students need and deserve.
Student Buy In
As is the case if any educational goal will work, student buy in must be present. The students at Hays Academy of Hair Design have fully welcomed the new delivery platform. They know it is essential in continuing on towards their hopes and dreams. For many years, Hays Academy has has had the belief that both campuses host the best students in the world. Over the course of the last week that has be proven to be true! These young learners have accepted the challenge and embraced the journey!
School as Usual
Believe it or not, it has been school as usual for Hays Academy students. Each morning still starts out with announcements, a positive message and our student favorite….Prayers and Praises. From there they go to their theory classroom, in a virtual format. After this, they move into their practical education. During this time, students are still refining their practical skills under the direction and supervision of an instructor. While it may not be the perfect set up, it is one that allows the students the luxury of completing their schooling in a timely manner.
Still Enrolling
So while we may be offering distance education to the current students, we are still enrolling for future classes. The next start date at both campuses will be May 26, and our hope is that we will all be back in the building by then!
