Sassoon, Refreshed! by Ashley Paulson
As a Sassoon Academy School Connection member school, we at Hays Academy of Hair Design are able to
set ourselves apart from other schools. It is a very elite and structured program that we are honored to take part in. The most important part of a cosmetologist’s education is being able to explain the ‘why’ behind every cut they make. Suitability for the wearer, a thorough consultation and really focusing on bone structure and face shape also play a huge part in being Sassoon. I have seen face shapes and bone structures change in front of my eyes simply by putting a cut on them that they never knew how to ask for. One of those changes happened just two weeks ago, as shown below! It is no secret that my passion is in Sassoon haircutting – I
thoroughly enjoy all aspects of our field and love teaching everything
related to our industry, but gearing up for teaching Sassoon (for me) is like an athlete gearing up for their favorite sport. I train for it by watching videos, reading the same manuals I have seen a hundred times, and practicing, knowing there is always room for improvement. I am blessed to be able to have the continuing education with our Sassoon School Connection program.
Once a year, two Hays Academy educators get the chance to participate in a five day refresher cutting course at Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California with their Sassoon School Connection program. This was the school’s 7th year of attending. The idea of this course is to continue our education to be able to have a solid Sassoon cutting program for our students at Hays Academy of Hair Design with campuses in Hays and Salina, Kansas. We get the chance to bring back new information to our cutting edge team of instructors in separate training sessions at each campus. Hays
Academy also brings Sassoon to us in the fall, hosting a three day session for the instructors to have a hands on approach with a Sassoon Instructor from their Santa Monica campus.
This year, Colton Jones, Sassoon Cutting Instructor, took the first few hours of day one to really hone in on what we all needed from this trip. She tailored the rest of the week to our needs, and because of that we were able to make our program even better! It is always exciting to come back confident, make the changes that need to be made, and continue educating our students in the best possible ways. We look forward to continuing our relationship with these industry rock stars at Sassoon and grow as a team!
