Vidal Sassoon- “The man that changed the world with a pair of scissors.”
by Ashley Paulson- Salina Campus Director of Education
Sassoon ‘the man’ has laid out a structurally sound foundation for efficient and precise haircutting today. In the 1960s, Vidal realized that hairdressers of their time were forcing their clients to be bound to their chair at least once a week for elaborate sets and updos that would only last until it was time to wash again. Instead of taking such a long time to style the cut, he set out to find a way to cut the style, introducing for the first time true ‘wash and wear’ hair. Collections including his famous ‘bob’ and five-point cuts followed, and he soon became a household name.
Fast forward five decades, we are still using his original techniques. I personally feel what sets Hays Academy of Hair Design’s elite way of haircutting apart from others is our precise sectioning and suitability; really honing in on face shape, structure and making sure that shape is what would bring out that guest’s best features. Cutting hair the Sassoon way is efficient and leaves less room for error.
Currently Hays Academy is one of a few select schools in the WORLD that is part of Sassoon Academy School Connection, and we are so proud to be part of that small number. Our students leave our campuses in Hays or Salina with an incredibly solid foundation in haircutting, and are able to create any haircut using a combination of three techniques: line, graduation and layers.
As many hairdressers understand, at the end of the day it is all about our guests. Making them feel great about themselves inside and out. A good haircut can do just that! After all, “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good!” -Vidal Sassoon
